LOS ANGELES, CA (August 4, 2016) – Today ARRAY announces the acquisition of HONEYTRAP, the fourteenth theatrical release for the film collective since its inception. Received with critical-acclaim when it debuted in the UK in 2015, HONEYTRAP is the harrowing rite-of-passage drama inspired by a real-life crime of love, betrayal and murder in 2009. Featuring an international cast, the movie stars Jessica Sula (Skins, ABC Family's Recovery Road) Lucien Laviscount (Fox's Scream Queens), Naomi Ryan (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY) and Ntonga Mwanza (LEAVE TO REMAIN). ARRAY has acquired North American distribution rights. The announcement was made by ARRAY Founder Ava DuVernay.
“Director Rebecca Johnson has crafted a bewitching tale from a young woman's perspective with a cast of fresh new talent,” explained Array’s Executive Director Tilane Jones. “We’re excited to introduce HONEYTRAP to its US audience with this captivating voice in filmmaking.”
Girlhood and gang culture collide in HONEYTRAP as 15-year old Layla (Sula) contends with bullying at a new school by transforming herself inside and out. The teen's compulsive journey for love and acceptance soon becomes fatal in this cautionary tale based on headline news adapted by writer/director Rebecca Johnson.
HONEYTRAP held its New York premiere screening at the 2015 Urbanworld Film Festival.
The deal was negotiated by Gordon Bobb of Del, Shaw, Moonves, Tanaka, Finkelstein & Lezcano on behalf of ARRAY.
